Native American Beadwork
The Ojibwe (sometimes called Chippewa) have a rich tradition of using glass “seed” beads to decorate their clothing and other personal items. It is undergoing a revival amongst native peoples expanding worldwide & has a rich history and opportunity for creative expression.
Each 5 day program is designed for ABSOLUTE Beginners : 5th Grade to Adults. Personal
initiative & creative self-expression are emphasized in these programs. For each fiber art
project participants will design, create, and construct their project, and be introduced to the
history, cultural context, traditions, practices, applications of these different art forms.
A sample project will be on display at the Fendrick Library. There is a $5 material fee, instructions are free. The class will be presented by Nancy Walker and Jef Savage.
