–
February 23, 2026
"The Immortal Game: A History of Chess" will be hosted by Neil Coleman & Jef Savage. Neil is a professor, geologist, author and local resident. Jef is a local resident and owner and instructor of Danza Antiqua. Both share a love for chess and will present an engaging look at how 32 carved pieces on a chess board forever changed our understanding of art, science, war and the human brain. The game of chess can be traced from India and ancient Persia to medieval Europe. Both Benjamin Franklin and more recently, General Norman Schwartzkopf enjoyed many hours of chess! Come join Fendrick Library's chess instructors Neil Coleman and Jef Savage as they explore the origin, evolution and cultural significance of this "Game of King's!"
